Failure to regularly inspect the condition of your stored fuel can result in emergency, mission-critical equipment failing when you need it most.
You may face criminal prosecution and a heavy fine if oil or chemicals from your site pollute the ground or watercourses. You may also have to pay substantial clean-up costs.
Andel delivers total peace of mind for all your fuel and oil storage requirements. With over 30 years' experience in this highly specialised field, Andel has become a recognised market leader in maintenance, pollution prevention and compliance of fuel and oil storage sites.
Andel works with some of the largest public and private organisations in the UK and overseas, with customers including: Interserve, Arriva, Addenbrookes Hospital, Central Manchester NHS, University of Cambridge, Mersey Fire & Rescue, North Wales Police, Fire and Rescue, Nottinghamshire Police, West Yorkshire Police, National Grid, Northern Power Grid and Scottish Power.
Compliance with regulatory requirements
Businesses and organisations in the UK have a duty of care to prevent pollution and to comply with strict oil storage regulations.
Pollution from oil leaks and spills pose a significant threat to communities and the environment and oil storage tanks must be regularly checked, maintained and compliant at all times.
Though there are slight variations in regulations across England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, Andel can advise you and ensure your regulatory requirements are met, wherever you are in the UK.
Contamination is common in modern diesel fuel. Failure to regularly inspect and maintain your tanks and stored fuel can result in emergency, mission-critical equipment failing when you need it most. In the case of a hospital, for instance, the failure of back-up generators during a power outage could be a life and death situation for vulnerable patients and a potential disaster waiting to happen.
In accordance with BSI 5410, stored diesel fuel should be tested for a wide variety of contaminants. Andel provides 6-monthly testing for a range of problems that frequently occur in stored diesel fuel including:
• Wear (metal particulates in the fuel)
• Particulate contamination (dirt and biofuel content)
• Microbial contamination
Andel offers a comprehensive, one-stop customer support package:
• Site surveys
• Annual compliance inspections
• Compliance remedial work
• Fuel testing
• Fuel filtration
• Fuel polishing

• Bund installation and maintenance
Andel also offers a range of innovative oil storage products including bunds, pumps, separators, gauges, filtration systens and alarms for any size of fuel and oil storage installation.
Typical Andel on-site activities at a fuel and oil storage site
Andel’s specialist products and services are designed to maintain the integrity of your stored fuel and to protect the environment from the risk of pollution by maintaining your compliance with oil storage regulations at all times, wherever you are in the UK.
DEFRA’s guidance on the law states that: ‘It is recommended that oil storage tanks and ancillary equipment are inspected on an annual basis by an OFTEC Registered Technician’.
Each Andel inspection is carried out by an OFTEC registered and fully qualified technician (OFTEC 600A) and provides a full report for all on-site oil storage, including a detailed
survey for each container, a full summary of the findings and items for future attention.
Andel’s Annual Oil Storage Compliance Inspections go beyond standard OFTEC recommendations to give you total peace of mind that your oil storage remains compliant with all current regulations.
Regular fuel oil sampling provides effective early warning of potential problems. A typical Andel site sampling visit can be completed in a day with our independent laboratories
providing a comprehensive analysis, identifying degraded fuel and reporting on tank condition.
Andel can remove contaminated fuel, clean your tanks, ‘polish’ (clean) the fuel oil using specialist state-of-the-art remedial equipment, and return the refreshed fuel to the clean tank.
Andel can also install permanent fuel oil polishing systems to your tanks to regularly circulate the oil and clean it of contaminants.
Andel operatives will undertake any bund maintenance work as required as well as new bund installations. Andel ReBund™ is an innovative modular, bunding system. Robust, cost-effective
and easy to install, ReBund™ is constructed from 100% post-industrial plastic waste, with steel reinforcement for added strength. ReBund™ can be installed quickly as a new build project
or retro-fitted to existing oil storage sites.
Current regulations state that all oil storage tanks above ground MUST have secondary containment. If you are a site operator you have duty of care to prevent leaks from equipment
such as fuel containers and transformers polluting the environment. Andel specialise in bund (secondary containment) maintenance and installation.
Andel BundGuard™ provides a cost-effective, self-contained, easy-to-fit, automatic bund de-watering pump and alarm unit which works continuously and automatically 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Andel FilterSepta™ is ideal for both new works and retrofit. FilterSepta™ works as an above-ground interceptor and filter and is ideally partnered with BundGuard™ as a secondary defence for particularly sensitive sites.
With over a quarter of a century of experience working in fuel and oil storage, Andel has gained substantial technical expertise and practical know-how. Andel offers a comprehensive, one-stop package from initial site survey through to system design, product selection, installation and after-sales maintenance support for any size of installation.
Andel works with some of the largest blue chip organisations in the UK, saving them money, ensuring they are fully compliant with oil storage regulations and legislation, maintaining their operational efficiency and demonstrating their commitment to their green credentials and social reponsibility. Andel customers are spread across diverse industries and service sectors including airports, bus depots, councils, hospitals, utilities and the emergency services.
