Global environmental protection specialist creates wildflower meadow in collaboration

07/09/2023

The UK’s leading developer of specialised leak detection, water sustainability and environmental protection systems, Andel, has created a wildflower meadow at its head office.

Employees at the Yorkshire SME planted the meadow and sowed the seeds in the early summer to support their aim to create a working environment that encourages everyone to play their part in improving the environment and being a part of the bigger solution.

Barnsley Council supported the project from the beginning, ploughing the land and allowing Andel to do the final ground preparation and sow the seed.

The Yorkshire manufacturer has more than 30 years of experience in leak detection, pollution prevention and flood defence and an impressive customer base that includes the Houses of Parliament, The Pentagon, Hong Kong International Airport and Google, and took on its first Net Zero and Sustainability Coordinator as part of its commitment to be net zero by 2025.

Net Zero and Sustainability Coordinator, Joe Harris, said: “We’re proud as an SME to be breaking the mould and committing so much to sustainability and our ultimate goal to be Net Zero by 2025.

“As an environmental company, we want to conduct our day-to-day activities adding positively to the environment. This wildflower meadow is a new and exciting addition to our long-term vision. Having a Wildflower meadow on site provides our immediate wildlife community with multiple benefits. It also provides a nicer space for our own community of staff and locals to enjoy.

“We’d like to thank Barnsley Council and Paul Castle, Service Director for the Environment and Transport in particular, as we couldn’t have done it without them. We believe that when it comes to the environment, every little bit helps.”
